Green Mountain Coffee: Fair Trade Coffee and Keurig Mini Plus Brewer Giveaway

Did you know that October is National Fair Trade month? Today, I’m excited to talk about the Fair Trade movement and how important it is. Fair Trade means that farmers get a fair price for their harvest, thus enabling them to invest back into their farms and communities. It means empowering family farmers, especially those struggling in poverty. It means helping workers create safe working conditions and helping families improve their standard of living, keep their kids in school, and strengthen their local communities and economies.
That said, another reason I’m proud to be a Keurig K-Cup Ambassador is because Green Mountain Coffee was one of the first coffee roasters to sell coffee that is Fair Trade Certified. In fact, last year they were confirmed by Fair Trade USA as the world’s largest purchaser of Fair Trade Certified coffee. After visiting Green Mountain Coffee’s headquarters in Vermont last month (more on that later!), it became clear to me just how huge a priority Fair Trade is to them, and how hard they work at forming relationships with coffee farmers and pursuing the mission of Fair Trade.
This year, Green Mountain Coffee also enlisted the help of musicians Grace Potter and Michael Franti to spread the word about Fair Trade. As part of the campaign, Green Mountain Coffee took Grace Potter to Colombia and Michael Franti to Sumatra earlier this year to experience firsthand why Fair Trade means better coffee for you and a better life for farmers. ”Great Coffee, Good Vibes, Pass it On” is their month-long awareness campaign celebrating Fair Trade and encouraging consumers to purchase Fair Trade Certified products. I’ve never once tried green mountain coffee but dang does that pumpkin spice sound good! But most likely my favorite would be a plain jane like the breakfast blend.
