Cherry Crumble

Cherry Crisp - 6

Remember those cherries I mentioned that I wanted to get out of my freezer? Well, this is where they all went. One of my favorite things to make with fresh fruit is a simple crisp or crumble like this, and these cherries were no exception. I have a hard time resisting sweet fruit with a warm oat topping, which goes especially well with a scoop of creamy vanilla ice cream. If cherries aren’t in season near you yet and you don’t have any stashed away in your freezer, you can always make this apple crisp or this delightful rhubarb crumble…or, use whatever fruit you have on hand. And now that it’s finally stopped raining, I have to get outside and enjoy this uncharacteristic 70 degree weather while it lasts. Hope you can get out and enjoy the weather too!

For the topping:

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and spray an 8×8″ baking dish with cooking spray. In a medium bowl, mix together the cherries, sugar, and flour.

Cherry Crisp - 1

In a medium bowl, whisk together all of the topping ingredients.

Cherry Crisp - 2

Pour the filling into the baking dish, and then sprinkle the topping mixture over the top.

Cherry Crisp - 3

Bake 30-35 minutes or until golden brown.

Serve warm.

  9. Yum! I love a pie cherry and I’m always looking for good cherry recipes (not too sweet – so an oat topping is perfect). My grandmother had a cherry tree in her front yard and so pie cherries always remind me of her!

  12. I thought of you the other day as I tried to make strawberry jam from a friend’s recipe. It was not pretty…lol I should have perused your canned jam recipes first. Next time which will be soon, I will.
