Bumblebee Cupcakes

About a month and a half ago, a friend asked me if I’d be willing to make some cupcakes for the baby shower she hosted this past weekend for her sister-in-law. I was a little nervous, but I said yes. I really had no idea how to price cupcakes – I have my baker friends on Twitter to thank for helping me with that! Once I sent my friend a few design ideas and knew what she wanted, I was ready to roll. The tricky part was that hubby and I were leaving Friday to go camping with some friends, so I needed to get them done by Thursday, but it all worked out.
The cupcakes are chocolate with fondant decorations (and a little bit of vanilla buttercream). I made the marshmallow fondant ahead of time, which helped things go pretty smoothly. I baked and decorated the cupcakes all on Wednesday night so that they would be as fresh as possible for their Thursday morning drop-off. Each one is unique, which I’d have to say was the most fun part! My friend said that they went over really well at the shower, and that everyone thought they were cute. That’s a success in my book!
