ANM – No, I don’t drain the beans first. After simmering 15-20 minutes once all the ingredients have been combined, it should cook down to the right consistency.

Just wanted to thank you for your recipe! I made this for my boyfriend today, and we both loved it. If anyone’s looking for modifications, I used one can of kidney beans and one can of black beans (instead of two cans of kidney beans). Thanks again!
