Baby Shower Cake

One of my friends decided to throw a surprise baby shower on Tuesday for a mutual friend of ours, and she asked me if I’d be willing to bring the cake. Of course, I said yes! So, without further ado, here it is:

A little closer:

It’s a four-layer white cake, made using a double batch of Martha’s Perfect White Cake recipe. I actually baked each cake layer separately because I only had one pan, and I didn’t want to spend the money on another one. I was told the mom-to-be likes anything strawberry, so I whipped up some strawberry mousse with little bits of strawberries for the filling. All of the decorations are buttercream frosting, except for the pacifier-shaped candies I found at a craft store that I  thought were absolutely adorable. Congratulations again to the expecting couple!

I also wanted to give you all an update on the Penny Pinching Pantry Raid (PPPR in my tag list). I’ve decided that since I don’t think I can keep up with blogging about it every day, I’m going to post a recap at the end of every week, which will include a full breakdown of what I’ve spent, lessons learned, etc. In the meantime however, you can track my progress on my sidebar, which I will update every day. I’ll also continue to post recipes as normal, so you can see some of what we’ve been eating around here.

And of course, don’t forget to check out my fellow penny pinchers to see how they’re doing!

  2. That is the sweetest cake…inside & out! 🙂 What perfect square blocks! I know I would have had wavy lines all over the place.

I KNOW it was a hit at the shower!

  4. The cake is amazing! You have only spent $2, no fair:) I am up to $8. I am not updating every day either. It is too much for me. Will try to do updates 1-2 times per week. Good luck!! Have a great weekend!

  5. Ann – thanks so much!

Bridget – thanks! Some of the blocks on the other side were a little wavy, hehe…but it worked out. 😉

    Shelly – thanks! 🙂

Maria – thank you! Haha yeah, so far so good. Fortunately, the 4th was easy on the budget since my parents usually bring most of the food! 🙂
