About a month or so ago, I read a tweet from Susan over at She’s Becoming DoughMessTic about what she called the “$100 food challenge.” I was intrigued, so I replied and asked her what it was all about. Basically, her and her family are going to attempt to survive on a $100 grocery budget for the next four weeks. Knowing how much hubby and I spend on groceries every month, I instantly felt challenged – could I do that, too?! She asked me if I wanted in, and I said yes! You can do it, too…check out her post on the $100 food challenge to learn more, and leave her a comment if you want to join us.
Later today, I’ll be posting about what I’m starting with in my refrigerator and pantry, because of course I won’t go out and buy everything we eat this month; I always use a little something we already have. This goes right along with her second rule, which I am totally on board with – we won’t be changing our lives just to succeed at the challenge. As another example, hubby and I eat out every once in a while, and we won’t stop doing that…but we won’t decide that since I can’t think of anything to cook that’s on our budget, we’ll just go out. We’re going to continue living as “normal,” but with (much!) less money for groceries.
I’m totally excited! The challenge goes from July 1st through July 28th. I can’t wait to see how much we can save. Plus, I’m excited for the challenge of being creative while on the budget, such that we don’t end up just eating macaroni and cheese every day for four weeks!
I’ll be back later tonight to share with you the contents of my fridge and pantry, so you can see that I don’t have a giant meat freezer or anything like that. And, it’s not too late for you to join in!
